On Saturday February 11th, UFC will hold UFC 208 at the Barkclay Center in Brooklyn, New York. This is the first UFC event held in Brooklyn and the fourth one held in New York State since MMA was legalized. This event will be headlined by the former Woman’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holmes and rising star Germaine de Randamie. These women will fight at the featherweight class (145lbs). This will be the UFC’s first featherweight bout in franchise history. Winning this would make Holly Holmes the first female in UFC history to win titles in two different weight divisions.
Also on the card is the former, arguably P4P best UFC fighter, Anderson the Spider Silva matched up against Derek Brunson. Rounding out the card will be Glover Teixeira vs Jared Cannonier, Dustin Poirier vs Jim Miller, and former UDS student Phillipe “Filipino Assassin” Nover vs Rick Glenn.
This card also represents the Brooklyn venues debut of UDS’s and the Budokan’s own Randy “Rude Boy” Brown. Brown returns to the Octagon with a 9-1 record and faces the wily veteran in George Sullivan who sports a 3-2 UFC record and 17 5 MMA record. George was coming off a year suspension for being caught by USADA for PEDS. In an interview on Bloody Elbow he described the strange circumstances surrounding his suspension and that he was training in Arturo Gatti’s old gym. (Gatti died under suspicious circumstances in 2009.) When asked about his opponent Randy Brown, Sullivan indicated that he felt Randy’s busy 2016 fight schedule and Sullivan’s long lay off would not give Randy an advantage in a fight. He also indicated that his 5 losses were due to bad luck.
Fast forward to January 2017 and George Sullivan has been suspended again and pulled form the UFC card.
We will follow-up when we find out who Randy’s opponent will be.
